Behind The Cloud

I suspect there’s a lot of people who know little about Salesforce as a company yet consume services either directly or from companies that leverage the Salesforce platform daily. I work in the IT & Tech industry so am familiar with Salesforce but wasn’t necessarily aware of its full background, founding and how it grew to the behemoth it is today.

It’s quite a fascinating story of drive, focus and consistency to take Salesforce from an idea started in a small apartment to the multibillion-dollar company that it is today. This isn’t a biography on Marc Benioff but is instead written in a playbook style outlining how Salesforce became a success with key lessons and frameworks adopted along the way. It’s hugely insightful especially for anyone working in the tech industry or with ambitions of creating their own startup or SaaS product. The narration of the audiobook could be a bit better however I think this is also a great book to have a physical copy of for ease of reference on an ongoing basis. Given the recent pace of development on AI capabilities enabling people to get closer to bringing their own software and SaaS solutions to life you can learn a huge amount from this book. Even if you don’t operate in the software space this has a lot to offer as far as practical business advice and insights as well.

Who’s it for?

Although anyone can pick this up and learn a lot from it, it certainly speaks more to people in Tech, working on software or SaaS solutions or with ambitions of starting their own business. For anyone working in business in general it offers a lot of lessons and particularly for users of CRM software and Salesforce particularly I think this will be an interesting read realising how the platform came to be and reached the scale it’s at today.
